Ok so before I tell you what the problem is let me explain the process of which I was going through!
Ok, when i first bought WoW a few years ago it came with the game disc set and a authentication key. Inside the box was also a "Guest Pass" key. So i decided to re-install WoW (no expansions), and make a new account (with the guest pass key). I finished my account creation on www.worldofwarcraft.com. Happy days! Then I go to my desktop, double click wow, type in the new account name etc. Then it tells me i need to "Restart" so it can upgrade (most likely for the patches yes? ). Now the trouble begins...
So, this screen pops up, its not a patch list screen, it prompts me to click on "Install WoW".
Now this is confusing because it is already installed....
So i click it and it starts downloading a 4.0 GB file...
So i stopped that download.
Heres my question. Has this happened to anyone else? If so how did you make it work for you? And laslty , would it make a difference if i upgraded the account to a "paid" account right away instead of having it live out its "trial" status?
Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Err, can't help you with install. I can only remember installing boxed wow and huge patches after that. Maybe someone else can help here?
As far as trial vs regular account. I don't think it has anything to do with the install. On trial I think you can only level up to 20 and you can't join any guilds and such. If you wanna do the trial thing, go for it, you can always upgrade later.

I had this same problem Adam, i suggest downloading the orignial classic world of warcraft game off their website. They have a downloader where you can download classic, bc, or wolk, providing you have a cd key. if you cant find the page let me know, i'll try to find it for ya.

I don't think it can be ruined any more.

If ANYONE has this problem ever, I know a site that has all the patches on it. You just download it and run it. Running it will then trigger the updater. THIS METHOD IS MUCH FASTER THAN USING BLIZZARD DOWNLOADER. But I would say just use this method if you can't use the downloader, just cause it's much easier to do something else while patcher runs, rather than having to click over and over. http://www.strategyinformer.com/pc/worl ... loads.htmlI used this site months ago, and I can confirm it's not virused. If you don't believe me just scan the files before extracting them. If you don't have WINRAR to extract the files from that site. http://www.rarlab.com/download.htmJust select a download from the list of them according to what OS you use. If you need to check your OS. Click start->Computer(or my computer)-> System Properties In system properties it will say System Type. As I'm not on my XP right now I can't confirm what it says on there.
